U.S. REP. SANTORUM TO SPEAK AT MELLON'S l993 COMMUNITY FUND GRANT PRESENTATION

 PITTSBURGH, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Mellon Bank announced today that U.S. Rep. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), will serve as keynote speaker for Mellon's l993 Community Fund grant presentation at 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at the Holiday Inn, Braddock Hills, Pa.
 Santorum will offer remarks regarding the economic revitalization of the Monongahela Valley to kick off Mellon's presentation of $15,000 to seven economic development organizations in eastern Allegheny County.
 The organizations and their grant amounts are:
 -- Braddock Housing Task Force ($1,000);
 -- Community Improvement Advisory Committee of Wilmerding ($1,500);
 -- East Pittsburgh Economic Development Corporation ($1,750);
 -- Economic Development Group East Inc. (EDGE) ($3,500);
 -- Enterprise Zone Corporation of Braddock ($2,500);
 -- Swissvale Economic Development Corporation ($3,000); and
 -- Turtle Creek Development Corporation ($1,750)
 In addition, two organizations will receive grants as part of Mellon's overall charitable efforts:
 -- Monroeville Area Industrial Development Corporation ($1,000); and
 -- Habitat for Humanity ($2,500)
 "This recognition event acknowledges Mellon's appreciation of these organizations that produce results related to improving the economic vitality of our area," said Christi E. Evans Short, assistant vice president.
 Mellon's Community Fund was established in l984 to enhance economic and community development by supporting groups that provide services to the small business sector; promote the region as a place to live and conduct business; and advance local efforts to improve low- and moderate- income communities.
 This year, Mellon will contribute $90,000 through its Community Fund for organizations in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland counties. This is the 10th consecutive year that Mellon has supported the work of economic development organizations through the Community Fund, bringing the total commitment under this fund to more than $790,000.
