U.S. Navy to streamline HR OPS with PeopleSoft HCM.

PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq:PSFT) has announced that the United States Navy has selected its industry-leading Human Capital Management (HCM) solution to consolidate more than 20 disparate human resources systems. PeopleSoft's HCM application suite will provide the more than 380,000 Sailors with access to personnel information and enable them manage their careers online. The Navy expects the solution to significantly reduce administrative and maintenance costs while improving services to its sailors. Navy officials are planning to begin implementation of the HCM solution in December and expect it to be fully functional in 2004.

"PeopleSoft HCM will enable the Navy to make a tremendous technological leap in our manpower and personnel systems," said Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Gerry Hoewing. "When fully developed, the PeopleSoft solution will enable Sailors to access their personal information, track their training and manage their career paths from their home, ship or base--all through a simple Web browser. The solution will give Sailors more accessible and accurate information, which will help them manage their professional development. We believe this will contribute significantly to our bottom line mission: successfully operating at the four corners of the world in support of our nation's defense."

PeopleSoft HCM will enable the Navy to consolidate its numerous personnel and manpower systems, which store personnel information such as benefits, training, assignments, qualifications and compensation. The PeopleSoft solution will centralize this information and enable immediate updates, providing unprecedented access to key human resources data. The Navy plans to use PeopleSoft Workforce Analytics to measure, manage and maximize workforce performance for all of its service members. The application will provide senior leadership with the ability to view up-to-the-minute data on personnel skill sets, compensation and competencies required to build future force structures.

The eRecruit and Manager's Desktop applications will enable service members to match their qualifications for potential job opportunities, update preferences such as geography and type of duty, and track the application process all through a standard Web browser. With the average Sailor changing jobs every two to three years, the solution will make it dramatically easier for Sailors to manage their Naval careers.

"The Department of Defense has made it an imperative to move towards commercial, off-the-shelf solutions in order to reduce administrative and maintenance costs," said Kevin Horigan, managing director, PeopleSoft Education and Government. "The Navy has become a driving force within the Defense Department in implementing industry-leading solutions. PeopleSoft's experience in the Government sector will enable us to help them reach their goal in streamlining processes while bringing advanced self-service capabilities to its service members."
