U.S. NAVY SHIPS TO SAIL INTO NEW YORK HARBOR MAY 20
NEW YORK, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Five U.S. Navy ships will sail

into New York Harbor May 20 for the fifth annual Fleet Week celebration, May 20-25. This year's participants include the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, the amphibious assault ship USS Guadalcanal, the submarine tender USS L.Y. Spear, and the frigates USS Donald B. Beary and USS Clifton Sprague. The U.S. Navy will be joined by U.S. Coast Guard vessels and ships from France and Norway.
An aspect of this year's Fleet Week is the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of World War II.
Fleet Week presents a number of excellent opportunities for media. The Navy is arranging overnight stays May 19-20 onboard the John F. Kennedy during the transit from Norfolk, Va. to New York City and onboard the Clifton Sprague during the transit from Philadelphia, Pa. to New York City. Remaining ships may also have embark opportunities. In addition, helicopters may fly members of the media to some ships on the morning of May 20 as the ships approach New York City.
Media who wish to embark on a Navy ship should contact Navy Office of Information, East not later than May 5.
If members of the media wish to visit a ship during Fleet Week, or interview Navy personnel, the Navy Office of Information can make the appropriate arrangements.
