U.S. LONG DISTANCE CORP. ANNOUNCES NEW CONTRACTS

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Long Distance Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: USLD) today announced two separate operator services agreements, increasing the number of pay telephones serviced by over 10 percent. The company reported that it has obtained a multi-year agreement with Alpha Pay Phones, L.P. of Dallas, to provide operator services for approximately 1,800 pay telephones in the Texas market. The company also confirmed that it had previously signed a similar agreement with National Telecom USA, Inc. to include more than 2,000 pay telephones in the Northeastern United States. These agreements should immediately increase USLD's revenue by over $600,000 per month.
Parris H. Holmes Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, stated, "The signing of these agreements confirms USLD's position as a leader in the operator services arena. We believe there are approximately 300,000 private pay telephones in the United States, of which USLD today provides long distance services to over 10 percent. Given these new agreements and the Communications Central, Inc. ("CCI") announcement of December 1992, we are pleased with the recognition the competitive telephone industry has awarded us as a leader in providing long distance facilities for its pay telephones."
On December 18, USLD signed CCI of Atlanta, the nation's second largest competitive pay telephone owner, to a multi-year, long distance transmission and operator services agreement. CCI owns approximately 10,000 pay telephones in Texas and Southeastern United States markets.
USLD is an integrated long-distance telecommunications and information management services company with three primary areas of business: regional direct-dial long distance services in Texas and three surrounding states; billing clearinghouse and information management services for operator services and direct-dial long distance companies; and national operator services for the hospitality and pay telephone industries.
