U.S. EPA PROPOSES 3 ADDITIONS TO FEDERAL SUPERFUND LIST

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today proposed three sites in the western region for inclusion on the federal Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). Two sites are in Davis, Calif., and one is in Hawaii.
 The sites are: Frontier Fertilizer
 Davis, Calif.
 LEHR/Old Campus Landfill (DOE)
 Davis, Calif.
 Naval Computer EASTPAC
 Wahiawa, Hawaii
Sites are proposed or placed in a final status as part of the periodic review and update of the Superfund program. The NPL is U.S. EPA's list of hazardous waste sites potentially posing the greatest long-term threat to public health and the environment. U.S. EPA identifies and ranks NPL sites according to threats to nearby populations through actual or potential contamination of soils, groundwater, surface water or air.
With today's decision, there are now 104 final and nine proposed sites in Region 9. Region 9 includes the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada and the Pacific Islands. Nationwide, there are 1,192 final and 97 proposed sites on the NPL.
