 U.S. EPA ISSUES OVER $800,000 IN WETLANDS FUNDS
 SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental


Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today announced that it has allocated over $800,000 in grant funds for wetlands projects in California, American Samoa, the Navajo Nation, and Arizona.
 The grantees, the grant amounts, and the projects are: the California Resources Agency -- $75,000 for a wetlands inventory demonstration project; the California Coastal Conservancy -- $110,000 for the San Luis Rey River Management Plan; the California State Water Resources Control Board -- $367,215 for a variety of wetland projects; American Samoa -- $100,000 for a wetlands management plan; the Navajo Nation -- $53,105 for a wetlands inventory and protection plan; and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality -- $104,500 for an assessment of artificial wetlands and their effect on water quality. The agencies awarded the grants have matched 25 percent of the federal funding.
 The State Wetlands Protection Development Grant Program provides funds on a competitive basis for projects that assist in the development of wetlands protection programs.
