U.S. EPA CITES MICRODOT FOR HAZARDOUS WASTE VIOLATIONS

SAN FRANCISCO, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today announced that it has filed a complaint against Microdot Inc., charging that the company violated hazardous waste regulations when it shipped hazardous waste from its Microdot Inserts Division facility at 190 West Crowther Ave., Placentia, Calif. The complaint seeks $93,000 in penalties.
"It is the responsibility of generators to ensure that hazardous wastes are transported only to facilities authorized to accept these wastes under the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)," said Jeff Zelikson, director of hazardous waste management for U.S. EPA's western region.
The complaint alleges that Microdot sent shipments of spent solvents, which are hazardous wastes, to facilities in Wyoming and Utah that did not have a permit for treatment, storage, or disposal of these wastes. Five other Southern California hazardous waste generators were charged earlier with violations involving the same unpermitted Utah and Wyoming facilities.
The complaint also charges that Microdot failed to notify the receiving facility that one of the shipments contained wastes that are banned from land disposal.
The Microdot Inserts Division facility manufactures metal inserts for use in various industrial applications.
