U.S. EPA AGREES WITH PHOENIX FIRM TO RESOLVE ASBESTOS VIOLATIONS
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) today announced the signing of a consent agreement with Law Engineering Inc., 4634 South 36th Place, Phoenix, concerning alleged violations of the U.S. EPA rule regarding federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) regulations.
As part of the agreement, the company will pay a civil penalty of $18,000.
U.S. EPA issued a civil complaint on March 23, 1990, alleging that Law Engineering failed to properly inspect and failed to properly develop management plans for schools in the Phoenix area. Upon receipt of the civil complaint, Law Engineering initiated a compliance review of AHERA work previously performed under contract with various school districts and expended approximately $150,000 in revisiting and correcting deficiencies in their school inspections and management plans.
The agreement also requires Law Engineering to certify that it has complied with the Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools rule.
