U.S. BANK PLANS MAJOR EXPANSION IN PIERCE COUNTY
WITH NINE NEW BRANCH OFFICES SLATED
TACOMA, Wash., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Citing strong market demand from businesses and consumers in Pierce County, U.S. Bank today announced plans for nine new branch offices to be opened in Greater Tacoma this year and next.
The bank filed applications for the first of four new branches this week, according to Gerry Cameron, president and chief executive officer for U.S. Bank of Washington. These branches will be located in Lakewood, Fircrest, Fife and Bonney Lake. Sites for an additional five branches are under negotiation and will be announced when land purchases are finalized.
U.S. Bank currently has three branches operating in the Tacoma area: the Tacoma main office on Broadway, a South Tacoma branch at South Union and an office on Pacific Avenue. These facilities support two business lending groups and an asset management/trust sales division, in addition to full-service consumer banking operations.
The expansion will raise the number of U.S. Bank branches serving Pierce County to 12.
"We have planned to expand our operations in Pierce County for some time," said Cameron. "We believe that 12 branches will give us a good base to serve this growing market, but we are also looking at additional sites to add to our network in the future."
U.S. Bank is also increasing its commercial banking capabilities in the Pierce County market by expanding staff on its commercial account teams. Barry Follman, senior vice president and district manager for Pierce County, noted that the bank is moving aggressively to increase staff for the new facilities.
"We are hiring local people who are experienced in doing business in Tacoma-Pierce County," said Follman. "With this expansion, Pierce County residents and businesses will have a truly convenient choice of a bank that's focused on its customers and not internal changes. We intend to grow with the rest of the economy here."
U.S. Bank of Washington is a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp (NASDAQ: USBC), the largest financial services company headquartered in the Northwest, with assets of $19.3 billion as of June 30, 1992.
