U.S. ATTORNEY ROTKO ANNOUNCES SENTENCING

PHILADELPHIA, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael J. Rotko, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, announced today that Alfred J. Lutz Jr. has been sentenced to a term of imprisonment for his role in the demise of Hill Financial Savings Association, one of the 10 largest savings and loan failures in the United States.
Lutz, the former president and later, chief executive officer of Hill, was charged on Sept. 24, 1992, by information with three counts of misapplication of bank funds, in violation of Title 18, U.S. Code section 657. Pursuant to a plea agreement he entered a plea of guilty to all three counts of the information on Oct. 21, 1992.
Today he was sentenced by Judge Ronald L. Buckwalter to 46 months in prison, three years supervised release and a fine of $25,000. The government had requested a sentence at the top end of the sentencing guideline range of 46
to 57 months. The defendant had requested a probationary sentence. The Court found that there was no basis for a departure from the sentencing guidelines.
Lutz is scheduled to report to a prison designated by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in 60 days.
