U.S. ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR DEFENSE FOR FORCE MANAGEMENT
AND PERSONNEL TO HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE APRIL 25
The U.S. Assistant Secretary for Defense for Force Management and Personnel will hold a news conference on Saturday, April 25, at 3 p.m. at the Boca Raton Marriott Crocker Center, 5150 Town Center Circle, Boca Raton, Fla.
Christopher Jehn, who is the senior manpower official of the U.S. Department of Defense, will discuss the U.S. reduction in military forces following the ending of the Cold War.
Jehn estimates that once the reduction is completed, there will be 500,000 fewer men and women in uniform than there were in 1989. The reduction will come through a variety of changes, including lower recruitment rates, retirements, etc. In addition, military personnel are being encouraged to go into teaching and other areas of the private sector, and a videotape -- Heroes for Hire -- has been produced to encourage employers to hire people formerly in the military.
Jehn is in Boca to speak Saturday evening (April 25) before the annual convention of the Military Order of World Wars, being held at the Boca Marriott April 23-26.
Founded following World War I, the Military Order of World Wars has 153 active chapters and thousands of members worldwide who promote service to community and counrmed Forces Day, to be held this year May 16.
Jehn's new conference will be in Suite 904 at the Boca Raton Marriott Crocker Center.
