 U.S. ARMY TANK-AUTOMOTIVE COMMAND APPOINTS RAFFIANI 32nd COMMANDER
 WARREN, Mich., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Maj. Gen. Joseph Raffiani Jr. became the 32nd commander of what is now called the U.S. Army Tank- Automotive Command (TACOM) during a change of command ceremony here Thursday, Feb. 13.
 TACOM is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command headquartered in Alexandria, Va. TACOM manages a fleet inventory of nearly 650,000 vehicles worldwide. The organization awards contracts totaling $4.9 billion annually.
 Raffiani's responsibilities encompass the supervision of combat and tactical vehicle management including research, development, distribution, repair parts supply, operation and maintenc?e doctrine.
 Raffiani's last assignment was with the Office of the Secretary of the Army (Research, Development and Acquisition) as assistant deputy of Program Assessment and International Cooperation.
 Raffiani served at TACOM as deputy commanding general for Procurement and Readiness from August 1989 to July 1990. His first assignment at TACOM was in 1976 as assistant project manager for Logistics, Improved TOW Vehicle. He served an eight-year period here from 1981 to 1989 first as director, Logistics, M1 Tank Program and completing his tour as project manager, M1A1 Abrams Tank Systems.
 He holds an MS degree from Tulane and a BS from Rutgers.
 Raffiani is married to the former Janis R. Jackson of New Orleans. They have two children, a daughter, Hillary, and a son, Jay.
