Tykes fight back.
Richard Dawson fell one short of his career-best 87 as he rescued Yorkshire in Frizzell County Championship Division Two's top-of-the-table battle at Chester-le-Street.
Dawson put on 75 in 10 overs for the last wicket with South African Deon Kruis, whose unbeaten 37 came off 32 balls as Yorkshire recovered from 70-5 to 254.
Mick Lewis finally had Dawson lbw to finish with 4-77 in what could be his last championship appearance as Durham's deputy for fellow Australian Ashley Noffke, who arrived from Queensland this week.
It is also Durham skipper Mike Hussey's last appearance for six weeks because of one-day international duties and he again looked in superb form early on.
But when Bresnan replaced Silverwood his first ball removed Hussey, who dragged it into his stumps to fall for 25, then Bresnan had Jon Lewis lbw.
With three overs left Kruis shot one through at ankle height to bowl Paul Collingwood.
From being 45-0, Durham managed to end the first day on a precarious 65-3.
