BEIRUT: Two police officers were injured in a hit and run Monday while trying to pull over a van under Beirut's Cola Bridge, the Internal Security Forces reported in a statement. An ISF officer on a motorcycle first attempted to stop the van, as he suspected it of running on an illegal diesel-fueled engine, but the driver did not stop. As the van driver sped away, he crashed into a traffic police officer who was on foot. The motorcycle officer then drove in front of the van's path in an attempt to block it, but the van crashed into him, knocking him off his bike. A video circulating on social media showed the motorcycle officer then running after the van and shooting at its tires as it fled. A patrol from the ISF's Information Branch immediately tracked the driver down and arrested him, taking him to the Ramlet al-Baida police station, the ISF statement said. The two officers were taken to a hospital for treatment.
