Two new bishops.

* Bishop Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., currently Bishop of Corner Brook and Labrador, NL, has been appointed Bishop of Hamilton, ON. He will replace Bishop Anthony Tonnos who recently retired at age 75. Bishop Tonnos, in Hamilton since 1984, had a distinguished career in various sectors of the CCCB.

* The new Bishop of St. Catharines, ON, is Most Rev. Gerard Bergie, currently Auxiliary bishop and Vicar General in Hamilton. He replaces Bishop James Wingle who resigned precipitately in April stating he no longer had the stamina for the position. He has recently acknowledged being in Israel on sabbatical. Media speculation has given out that he was under pressure in relation to sex-abuse charge on a priest from his diocese. (Toronto Star, Sept. 15)
