Two dead in Basilan restaurant blast.

Manila Two persons died while 14 others were injured after a powerful blast ripped through a restaurant in southern Basilan's provincial capital Isabela City on Saturday afternoon.

Reports reaching Manila said customers were having an early dinner at Mon's Kitchenette around 5:45pm when an explosion shook the half-concrete, half-wooden structure. The blast triggered a fire that engulfed the establishment and caused panic in the area.

A report by the daily Sunstar Zamboanga City said authorities are looking at the possibility that the blast and fire were caused by a liquified petroleum gas tank that exploded in the kitchen. A website suspected the explosion to be a retaliation for the arrest of two members of the Abu Sayyaf group in Lamitan town.
