Two Cities, Two Shows.
THE WORLD's BIGGEST woodworking supply and machinery shows -- interzum 2001 and Ligna-Plus -- take place next month in Germany.
As was the case two years ago, the dates for the two events are overlapping by two days. Interzum is scheduled for May 18-21; Ligna runs from May 20-25.
First Up, interzum
Leading off is interzum 2001 at the Cologne International Fairgrounds. The 40-plus year-old show will feature more than 1,700 exhibitors covering 160,000 square meters.
This year's edition of interzum will showcase the latest innovations in decorative laminates; cabinet and furniture slides and hinges; upholstery products; and flooring products.
North Americans interested in learning more about attending interzum can contact the German Chamber of Commerce in New York at (212) 974-8836 or visit www.interzum.com.
On the Heels of the 2000 World's Fair
Ligna-Plus will take advantage of some of the Hannover Fairgrounds' new amenities left over from Expo 2000, the first world exposition held in Germany. The 153-day event, which closed on Oct. 31, claimed 18.1 million visitors.
Some of the Expo's improvements that will benefit Ligna-Plus 2001 include new halls, roads and green areas, as well as new public transport access created for the city.
The six-day Ligna Fair will try to out-do the worldwide woodworking trade show records it set in 1999. The records included 110,000 visitors and 1,874 exhibiting companies spread out over about 1.5 million square feet of display area. Show management says 917 exhibitors and 43,000 visitors came from outside of Germany, including 3,000 from the Western Hemisphere.
Ligna has a well-earned reputation for being the launching pad for new woodworking technologies.
