Twin-screw lab line available for DLFT trials.

A lab line set up recently at Leistritz Extruder Corp., Somerville, N.J., is believed to be the first twin-screw test facility in North America available for customer trials of direct compounding and extrusion of long-fiber thermoplastic (DLFT) composites. The line has a 50-mm-diam. corotating twin-screw and 10 spools for continuous feeding of glass rovings. It can run DLFT sheet, profiles, and long pellets. A technical paper on twin-screw DLFT extrusion is available for free.

Meanwhile, a single-screw DLFT compounding/extrusion process from PlastiComp Inc., Winona, Minn., will become available at its lab for customer trials this month. Leistritz: (908) 685-2333/PT Direct: 731HD * PlastiComp: (507) 454-4334/PT Direct: 671BH
