Turning tropical; We all know we can't depend on the British weather. Claire Hornby looks at some ideas for the home to brighten up the dullest of days.
SUMMER is all about bright colours. It's a time to go a little bit crazy with accessories. Since May I've had some gorgeous multi-coloured glasses out on the worktop in my kitchen along with a pitcher just ready for when the sun came out. They make me feel very summery even when the weather isn't quite so hot.
Obviously summer isn't the time for full redecoration. No one wants to be indoors painting when the sun is out but it can be worth taking the time to spruce up the odd wall with a new colour or invest in a f abulous new piece of furniture.
With all the advanced technology about these days it's possible to shop from your sun lounger so there's no excuse at all for not having a fab summer-friendly home.
I also love investing in lots of candles and bunting and things I can use indoors after the sun has gone in.
My favourite summer shop is Bombayduck.co.uk which has lots of little things to turn your home into a fun summertime hangout.
Barker and Stonehouse also has lots of goodies to keep you cool through the summer including glasses, pitchers and ice buckets.
While it's hot you'll need to keep a drink close at hand to avoid getting dehydrated.
Whether you're drinking refreshing lemonade or something a little stronger it's definitely worth keeping a pitcher close by.
That way you won't need to keep making endless trips to the kitchen to top up.
You will also want your drinks to be nice and cool so an ice bucket is a good idea.
From the quirky crown to the beautiful bar ice bucket there's plenty of choice at barkerandstonehouse.co.uk. Plus if you're eating outdoors later on why not add a few of our Ming Lotus flower tea light holders to your table? Or line a patio with them to create a beautiful enchanted garden effect.
Finally make sure you keep your house cool through those long summer nights with the stunning Otto fan from www.barkerandstonehouse.co. uk.
KEEP COOL The stunning Otto fan can make life more bearable . GO GREEN Use bright colours in a room to lighten up the dullest of days. BACK TO NATURE A few new items can make your home feel fresh. MELLOW YELLOW The accessories can make or break a room.
