Turning Twitter & Co off helped me to switch on.

Byline: GRAHAM GANO'S Letter from America

I've stayed off social media while playing for the Carolina Panthers this season, which has been a good thing. It's refreshing because it means you focus on family and friends.

There's also no noise to bug you. We have lost our last two games by field goals and both of the kickers who hit the winners also missed one during the match.

So they're the heroes whereas I got some stick for missing a few.

But as a kicker, you're always an easy target - it comes with the territory.

As a Despite criticism, I'm always confident.

you always easy For the last five years I have been a top-three kicker in the NFL but it with territory and I know I belong up there.

I've not had the best of seasons but I still feel I'm doing well. Statistically I'm not far off the top-rated kickers in the league right now.

It's just one of those things where stuff doesn't always go your way. This league is so competitive that anything can happen.

A lot of people talk about a Super Bowl hangover. We say it doesn't exist but when you look at our season - losing five out of six - it's easy to see why people believe it.

After our loss to the Saints last Sunday our coach, Ron Rivera, told us to check out of football for a week. We had a bye this weekend so it has been a chance to recharge the batteries and start again.

It's the first time the team has had some time off for a while. I've spent a lot of it with the kids and my wife Brittany and I are at the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina this weekend. When we come back, though, we have a huge 10-game stretch where we kicker, are need to win a lot.

an target comes the Everyone is still close and on the same page so we need to treat this week as a brand new season. We started off badly and are still struggling to get going.

We gave the Saints a 21-point lead seven days ago. We fought back and almost won, which shows promise but isn't good enough.

Nothing is stopping us but ourselves.

It's unfortunate we need to rely on some teams to do us favours now but that's the position we have found ourselves in.

It's time to show who we really are.

As a kicker, you are always an easy target but it comes with the territory
