Turned out ice again.. AS COUNTRY ENJOYS 27-C .. MINI BLIZZARD HITS VILLAGE.

Byline: MATT ROPER

HERE'S a spectacular way to end the spring heatwave... As the rest of the country basked in glorious sunshine, this village was hit by a freak blizzard. Roads and cars were left under three inches of snow and hail after the surprise storm swept overhead on an otherwise cloudless day.

The incredible pictures were taken by resident Sian Colver. The 28-year-old RSPCA volunteer said: "It was fascinating.

"I looked outside and hail stones were bouncing all over the road.

"They were the size of your thumbnail and really hard like bullets.'' Mum Janice, 58, added: "We had hail smashing against the patio door like someone was hurling stones at the house.'' The storm struck at Birstall, Leics, on Saturday afternoon, while just a mile away temperatures reached 27.2C and the UK baked in the Easter heatwave. Met Office forecaster Andy Bodenham said: "These big stones are formed at the top of cumulonimbus clouds where it's freezing cold. They fall from about 30,000ft, where jets fly." That's one hail of a drop...
