Turn yourselves in, shooting suspects told.
Instead they are looking into a potential connection with an attack on a man in July.
And they have warned three prime suspects to turn themselves in.
In the latest incident, at about 2.30pm last Sunday, September 20, shots were fired from a car on Norman Road in Birkby. No-one was hurt.
A source told the Examiner police were investigating a possible link with the murder of Jasem Asakerh, 28, who was shot dead while he sat in a car on Brook Street in Thornton Lodge on April 3.
But Detective Inspector Phil Benson, who is leading the inquiry, said: "I have no knowledge of a connection."
He said there may instead be a link with an incident in July, in which a man was allegedly stabbed at a Birkby hairdressers.
The shooting may have been a revenge mission on the part of the victim's associates.
Det Insp Benson said: "We are keeping an open mind. All incidents of disorder are fully investigated and we are keeping our options open on this one."
He said considerable progress had been made. "We have three suspects in mind in relation to this offence and are actively seeking them. We hope they see sense and give themselves up."
