Turkish-Egyptian action saves life in Gaza.
In spite of the late hours and weekend closure, Turkish and Egyptian diplomats agreed to join efforts to support the operation.
Rafah Border Customs and Security departments, El-Arish airport, Red Crescent societies, Health Ministries of the two countries and Palestinian Embassy in Cairo were informed and Palestinian request was brought to the attention of highest authorities.
By 18:00 the same day, El-Arish airport authorised the Turkish ambulance airliner to land, and authorities at Rafah border crossing opened to admit Ali Zohra and his parents.
The Palestinian family was rushed to El- Arish airport by Egyptian authorities immediately. At 20:00 Turkish ambulance plane took off carrying another suffering Palestinian baby to hope and salvation.
This humanitarian rescue operation was the second of its kind conducted through Egypt. Earlier, Palestinian baby Seraj Abujaraad, who suffered from blue baby syndrome, had also flown out to Turkey after a similar emergency medical evacuation with the co-operation of the Egyptian Government.
Ambassador of Turkey Huseyin Avni Botsali in Cairo expressed his sincere gratitude to Egyptian Foreign Ministry and all Egyptian authorities who have contributed to effective
and speedy conduct of the medical evacuation, and "highlighted that Turkish-Egyptian co-operation was fast turning into a humanitarian lifeline and a bridge for building peace
in the region".
