Turkish engineer kidnapped in Khost.

KHOST (PAN): Unidentified gunmen kidnapped a Turkish engineer from Matta Cheni area of southeastern Khost province on Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for the Khost governor said Friday.

Kochi Nasir, the spokesman,told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Turkish engineer was working with a reconstruction company in the area and was abducted by unidentified people from the Matta Cheni area on Thursday afternoon.

Without disclosing his name,Nasir said the engineer was engaged in construction of a government building in the area. According to the spokesman, police have launched their investigation into the kidnapping incident.

He added police had found two vehicles in the area and one of them was belonging to the kidnapped engineer and the other one to the kidnappers.

He said the vehicle belonging to the kidnappers is bearing a registration number of Paktia province. Some time ago, two Turkish engineers were abducted from Thanio district of the province and were released later.

Though there were rumors that the abducted two engineers were released after payment of ransom,but officials say they were released with mediation of tribal elders.

Nasir also said that a mine blast in the Matta Chena area killed a civilian last night. He added that the blast happened on a vehicle, killing a young man and injuring his father. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
