Turkey-TRNC -Turkish telecoms company builds undersea fiber optic line to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

October 06 2011 (TUR) -- Turkey's Turk Telecom, the country's biggest fixed line phone operator, on Wednesday launched an undersea fiber optic internet line for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or TRNC. Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim attended the inauguration ceremony of the Turkey-TRNC TURCYOS-2 Fiber Optic Line System, which is 213 km long with a 196-km part of it under sea bed. The line aims at meeting the increasing voice, Internet and data traffic in the TRNC and faster access to new generation technologies. "TURCYOS-2 will further boost communication network between Turkey and the TRNC. We need to expand highways of communication if we do not want to face setbacks like we did in past years," Yildirim said.
