Turkey, Iran sign MoU to cooperate in education.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Parliament recently approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Turkey and Iran on cooperation in the field of education.

The MoU between the governments of Turkey and Iran, which emphasizes their desire to improve relations and cooperation in the education field, was signed in the Iranian capital of Tehran on June 19, 2012, and published in the Official Gazette on Jan. 23, 2013, as Law No. 4071.

According to Article 1 of the MoU, the two countries will endeavor to expand ties in education in line with the terms of the MoU as well as any relevant laws and regulations of their respective countries.

Article 3 states that the countries should invite one another to attend educational events, conferences and seminars that are held at international and regional levels.

The two countries, on a basis of reciprocity, should also make efforts towards issuing residence permits free-of-charge and to make it easier for teachers of each country to obtain a residence permit when working at a school in the other country, states Article 11 of the MoU.

According to Article 13, Turkey and Iran should establish a joint commission comprised of three people and chaired by the relevant deputy minister or undersecretary to monitor the implementation of the MoU. The commission should meet once a year in Tehran or Ankara on a rotational basis.

The MoU was signed by former Turkish Minister of Education Eumer Dincer and his Iranian counterpart, Hamid Reza Haji Babaei.
