Tunisia takes part in Arab-Chinese Co-operation Forum.
Foreign Affairs Minister Kamel Morjane led the Tunisian delegation to the 4th ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Co-operation Forum, held on May 13-14 in Tianjin and whose opening session was chaired by Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Wen Jiabao.
In an address at the meeting's works, Mr. Morjane stressed progress of Arab-Chinese relations and the need to further boost them to hoist them to the level of a strategic partnership.
He also stressed the necessity to energise co-operation in the areas of investment, education, environment, technology and scientific research, given the importance of these sectors in the success of development programmes and in strengthening the capacity of the countries' economies to adjust to ups and downs the world economy and shield themselves against the fallout of the current economic and financial crisis.
In the final statement of this meeting, participants praised the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's initiative to proclaim 2010 "International Youth Year."
They called upon the Arab countries and China to participate actively in events to be held as part the International Youth Year by organising national and regional activities.
They also expressed satisfaction of the Arab countries and China at Tunisia's choice to hold in 2012 the 5th session of the Arab-Chinese Co-operation Forum.
During the closing ceremony, Chinese President Hu Jintao expressed consideration to President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali, praising the choice of Tunisia's hosting of the 5th Forum in 2012. He voiced confidence to see this session be crowned with success, given Tunisia's reputation in matters of hospitality and organisation of large-scale events.
Three documents were signed at the end of works. They are:
Tianjin declaration on establishing relations of strategic co-operation between China and Arab countries,
Final declaration of the forum and
Executive programme of the Forum for the 2010-2012 period which stresses the importance to strengthen mechanisms of political consultation and contacts.
