Tube fines may be axed.

Controversial pounds 10 on-the-spot Tube fines could soon be scrapped, after the new Transport for London organisation asked London Underground to get rid of the scheme as soon as possible.

LU said it was reviewing the situation but added that it wanted to ensure new technology was in place to deter fare dodgers before scrapping the fines.

Most stations on the Underground now have automatic ticket gates which have considerably reduced fare dodging, but LU is still losing around pounds 100,000 every weekday from ticket fraud.
