Trump fury over blitz at U.S. embassy.

Byline: QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA

THE American embassy in Baghdad was stormed by alleged Iranian-backed protesters yesterday.

Demonstrators shouted "No America" as they attacked the compound in the Iraqi capital and smashed their way into reception rooms.

They lit fires, battered down doors and lobbed bricks at bulletproof glass.

President Donald Trump threatened to hit back against Iran.

Marines took to the roof of the building, pointing assault rifles at insurgents who were driven back with tear gas.

The confrontation follows boiling tension over US sanctions which have crippled Iran's economy.

Trump tweeted that Iran "would be held fully responsible".
