New senior legal officer brings broad level of experience to

Tropian from Apple Computer, Silicon Graphics and HearMe

Tropian Inc., a Silicon Valley-based advanced wireless communications technology company, announced today that it has expanded its senior leadership team by naming technology law expert Murray R. Vince Vice President and General Counsel.

Vince, who will be Tropian's first General Counsel, brings to the company more than a dozen years of technology law experience that includes senior positions at Apple Computer, Silicon Graphics and HearMe, the Mountain View-based provider of voice communication technologies.

"Murray is a recognized legal expert in the technology field, and brings an outstanding blend of experience ranging from pre-IPO start-ups to Fortune 500 companies," said Michael Farese, President and CEO of Tropian. "He will be a strong addition to the Tropian leadership team as we continue to grow and expand our business."

Vince said he is excited about joining Tropian. "This company will fundamentally change the way people communicate through advanced wireless technology," he said. "I'm convinced that Tropian's RF products will help define the future of high speed wireless data and multi-mode wireless world phones."

Tropian has developed a unique high-speed, multi-mode RF platform that incorporates the world's leading wireless standards - TDMA, EDGE, GSM, CDMA and AMPS. The company's breakthrough technology allows wireless equipment suppliers to offer a "true" multi-mode platform for global wireless handsets and base stations, and enables high-speed GPRS and EDGE wireless data with high efficiency at all power levels. Tropian's RF systems products are marketed under its "One Platform for One World" campaign, which will be featured in major industry publications and at trade shows.

As General Counsel, Vince will focus much of his attention on Tropian's burgeoning licensing activity. He will also be responsible for overseeing all legal matters, managing outside counsel, negotiating and drafting strategic agreements and customer contracts, and building the legal department.

Vince comes to Tropian from HearMe, where he served as Vice President of legal services. His work at HearMe, which he joined in 1996, included intellectual property issues, mergers and acquisitions, litigation management, licensing, human resources, marketing, facilities and an April 1999 IPO.

From 1995 to 1996, Vince was Division Counsel for Silicon Graphics. He was responsible for providing legal support to SGI's subsidiary, Silicon Studio, Inc., and for the Digital Magic Systems Division. During his stint at SGI, Vince handled several strategic software deals for SGI, DreamWorks SKG, and Java licensing.

Prior to joining SGI, Vince spent six years at Apple Computer, serving in a variety of roles ranging from Director of Business Development for the Imaging Technology Group to Senior Counsel to Assistant General Counsel for Apple Canada.

From 1985 to 1989 Murray was in private practice at Borden & Elliot, one of the largest law firms in Canada. His practice consisted of computer and technology related matters in corporate, securities, commercial and intellectual property law.

Vince began his career as a Special Constable with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's commercial crime section, where he worked on fraudulent transactions, stock manipulations, corruption in federal government and tax offenses.

Vince received a BA degree in government and legal studies from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and a law degree from York University in Toronto. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco Law School, teaching intellectual property licensing and technology contracts.
