Byline: Submitted by Reverend Janice Brazil Cummings
On Sunday, June 9, at 4 p.m., Trinity AME Church will host the Fourth Annual Emanuel 9 Service of Remembrance at 210 South Ave., Waukegan. The service will honor the nine members of Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, including the pastor, who were murdered while participating in a church prayer service June 17, 2015.
This mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church was committed by a 21-year-old white supremacist. The service will honor those murdered, and will celebrate life and the right to worship without fear of racial violence.
The speaker for the service is Rt. Rev. John F. White, the presiding bishop of AME Churches in the Midwest, Canada and India. The service will include singing and dancing, followed by a fellowship reception.
Trinity AME Church is one of the oldest African American Churches in Lake County. On Sept. 8, 2019, they will celebrate their 115th year of serving the community.
The public is invited to attend. For information, call the church office at (847) 623-8529.
