Tributes to a true gentleman; The Voice of the North.

Referees are not often at the top of football fans' popularity charts, and they accept the brickbats from supporters are likely to outweigh the bouquets.

It's a fair bet that during his long career in the game, Robbie Harrold got a few pelters from the terraces, but he knew that went with the territory and didn't let it stop him devoting more than 50 years of his life to the game he loved.

Along the way he earned himself lifetime membership of the Scottish Football Association and a reputation as a true gentleman, and his death at the age of 80 will be mourned not only in football circles, but far beyond too.
