Tribute to be paid to soldiers.

TWO members of Yarm1914 Commemoration Group will be paying tribute to the men from Yarm and Egglescliffe remembered at the Menin Gate.

They will lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday during the Last Post Ceremony at the war memorial in Ypres, Belgium.

It is a fitting tribute to the six men who died between April 24, 1915, and July 15, 1915, who are commemorated on the memorials in Yarm and Egglescliffe.

The six soldiers are Pte. Harold Walker (Durham Light Infantry), Pte. David Coatsworth Doughty (Yorkshire Regiment), Pte. John Robert Robinson (Yorkshire Regiment), Pte. Thomas Smith (Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment), Cpl. Richard George Wallinger (Yorkshire Regiment) and Pte. Albert Wastell (Yorkshire Regiment). The Menin Gate Memorial bears the names of 54,389 officers and men from British and Commonwealth Forces who have no known grave.
