Tribute to Sidi Bouzid for its role in ouster of dictatorship.

SIDI BOUZID (TAP) - The International Festival of the Revolution started Saturday in Sidi Bouzid to mark the first anniversary of the eruption of the Tunisian Revolution. President Moncef Marzouki made an address, on the occasion, in which he paid tribute to the Tunisian youth, in general, and Sidi Bouzid's, in particular, for igniting the Revolution and their contribution to the fall of dictatorship, thus putting an end to oppression and injustice. He voiced confidence in the Tunisian people's ability to achieve economic, political and social development to solidify the foundations of democracy. Mr. Moncef Marzouki also spoke of the ways to develop the Governorate of Sidi Bouzid, stressing the need to set up a technological and academic pole in this region. National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar, for his part, praised the people of Sidi Bouzid, reminding that the Revolution broke out in this region before spreading to the other parts of the country. He paid tribute to the memory of martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of a free and decent Tunisia. "The Tunisian people are so much indebted to the region of Sidi Bouzid, to martyr Bouazizi and all martyrs of this country," he said, expressing, in his own name and on behalf of all NCA members, commitment to carry on action to achieve the objectives of the Revolution. He underlined that the State's established legitimate institutions will strain every nerve to achieve the objectives of the Revolution, by eradicating poverty, exclusion and unemployment, "in spite of the worst track record left by the former dictatorial regime." The speaker of the National Constituent Assembly called on all good wills to participate actively in the success of this transition process of new Tunisia.
