Tribunal orders recounting of votes cast in NA-271.

QUETTA, 13 May, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Balochistan Election Tribunal on Wednesday fixed the final date, for recounting of votes cast in general election-2008 against national assembly seat NA-271 Kharan-cum-Washak-cum-Panjgur, as May 16, 2009 at 11:00am. The Tribunal headed by Balochistan High Court judge, justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani, issued the order after observing the report of the concerned authority according to which the recounting could not be done due to absence of the parties despite fixing the date several times for recounting of the votes cast in the constituency. The Tribunal further ordered the counsels for the parties to remain present on that date at the time fixed for recounting. It also ordered the provincial election commissioner to recount the votes in the light of the previous order if none or either of the parties would remain absent on the recounting day. The Tribunal issued the order on the appeal of independent candidate Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch who challenged the election of winner BNP (A) candidate Ehsanullah Reki who was elected as MNA against NA-271 constituency. The Tribunal put off hearing of the case till May 21 next.
