Tribesmen vow to protect Nuristan-Kunar highway.

JALALABAD (PAN): Tribal elders from Nuristan and Kunar provinces have vowed to provide security to the vehicular traffic on the highway between the two provinces.

The announcement to this effect was made at a gathering of about 400 tribal elders and people belonging to the two provinces held at the center of Nuristan province,Paroon on Friday.

Nuristan governor Jamaluddin Badar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the elders from Nuristan and Kunar provinces at a gathering held before the Friday's prayers wherein they decided to maintain the security of the highway between the two provinces by themselves.

He added the highway which connects Pichdara and Chapi Dara areas in Kunar to Waigal district of Nuristan province is about 80 kilometers long.

Badar said since last year,incidents of robbery and armed attacks by the insurgents have increased on the highway.

The governor said that a similar gathering of the elders from both the provinces was held in Kunar province nearly two months ago.
