Trial run to sink Tories.

Labour leader Tony Blair is planning a no-holds-barred mock battle this week to finalise his strategy to topple John Major.

He has ordered his party chiefs to treat Wednesday's debate on the BSE crisis as a dress rehearsal for a possible vote of no confidence in the Government to force a General Election.

Chief whip Donald Dewar is to meet David Trimble, leader of the Ulster Unionists, whose votes are crucial if Labour are to defeat the Tories.

All opposition parties have been critical of the Government's handling of the beef crisis. It is the one issue that unites them all.
