Tree plantation campaign launched.
CHITRAL -- Deputy Commissioner Khurshid Alam Mehsud on Friday kicked off a tree plantation campaign wherein 1400,000 saplings would be planted in the district during the current season.
He planted a sapling at the Chitral Airport to mark launch of the drive in a simple but impressive ceremony which was attended by officials of the forest department and officers of other concerned officials of the district administration.
Speaking on the occasion, he urged masses to come forward and take part in this noble cause for the service of humanity and plant maximum trees and enhance forest cover for successfully tackling challenges in wake of climate changes.
Given severe environmental challenges, he said United Nations had also diverted its focus towards this serious issue and laid stress on tree plantation by marking International Forest Day each year to raise awareness among masses about importance of forests.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Shuakat Faiz said on the directive of provincial government, the forest department would plant 400,000 saplings while 1000,000 would distributed free among people for plantation.
He said that a total of 400 hectares land would be covered with the help of civil society to plant maximum trees and ensure healthy environment.
He said the drive would continue till April and efforts would be made to make the campaign a complete success.
