Tread marks on our hearts.

Residents of Virginia might get to declare their opposition to same-sex marriage not only in the voting booth--but also on their cars. To accompany a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, Republican L. Scott Limgamfelter of the state's house of delegates proposed a bill in late December to create special Virginia license plates depicting interlocking gold wedding bands over a red heart with the words TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE.

Dyana Mason, head of Equality Virginia, which is dedicated to defeating the state amendment, said she would like Limgamfelter "to demonstrate how this license plate will protect marriage." Limgamfelter's bill faces likely defeat, she said, noting that Virginia's otherwise conservative fourth circuit court of appeals previously struck down one license plate beating a Confederate flag and another with the slogan CHOOSE LIFE.
