Amazon Amazon wins with America's wealthiest shoppers. Wealthy consumers are more frequent Amazon shoppers, with 69% of adults in households earning $250,000 or more making a purchase on the site in the past 12 months, according to The Shullman Luxury and Affluence Monthly Pulse. Apple Apple works to distance itself from reported NSA iPhone hack. Apple responded to a report that the National Security Agency developed a program to target the company's smartphones with malicious software that could be used to intercept voice and text data, saying it had no role in helping the agency create the backdoor program and had no knowledge of its existence. The spyware program, dubbed DROPOUTJEEP, was "in development" in 2008, and was revealed in leaked documents traced to Edward Snowden. The program would have enabled the spy agency to pinpoint a phone user's location and access files including private contact lists. Apple, Samsung Apple, Samsung talk truce on patent wars. Samsung Electronics is reportedly in talks with rival Apple on bringing their two-year global patent litigation battle to a close. The Korea Times reports the talks, which involve an agreement on royalties, remain at the "working level" stage even as Korea Fair Trade Commission officials are working with U.S. and European antitrust regulators to help the companies reach a deal. Disney Disney CEO brings more tech heavyweights to board. Jack Dorsey is the latest Silicon Valley player to join the Disney board of directors, joining existing members Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and BlackBerry interim CEO John Chen. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger says, "[T]hese are people who helped create businesses that are incredibly disruptive, ones that changed the order of the world. Google Google works with partners to get 4K video on multiple hardware platforms. Google is collaborating with leading television manufacturers and other suppliers of electronics to get its 4K video format supported on their products, and 4K video content from YouTube will be shown at the 2014 International CES next week in Las Vegas. "Starting in 2014, you'll see products from major mobile, PC and TV partners that are using a new, more efficient video format called VP9 that gives you HD quality at half the bandwidth," said Google's Francisco Varela. Meanwhile, prices are dropping for Ultra HD TVs due to cheaper hardware being produced in China, and LG Display of South Korea is responding to the trend with lower-priced Ultra HD panels. Google Moto X: No contract price trimmed to $399. Google's Motorola Mobility has sliced the price of its 5-month-old Moto X flagship smartphone to $399 without a contract, down from the launch price of $579. The Android 4.4 handset, which costs $100 when purchased with a service contract at Verizon Wireless and AT&T, has earned generally favorable reviews for its unique features and customizable design. Google and German automaker Audi In-vehicle entertainment battle heats up . Google and German automaker Audi reportedly plan to announce a partnership next week involving Android-powered in-car entertainment and information systems, according to a published report. They also are expected to reveal alliances with other technology and automotive companies aimed at bringing smartphone-like applications to vehicles. "The car is becoming the ultimate mobile device, Apple and Google see that and are trying to line up allies to bring their technology into the vehicle," Gartner analyst Thilo Koslowski said. IBM IBM: iOS devices account for 5 times more online sales in Q4. During the fourth quarter of 2013, iOS mobile devices accounted for 12.7% of online sales, while Android-based devices represented 2.6%, according to a report by IBM Digital Analytics. Netflix is testing a multiple-user plan that allows new customers to stream different content on up to four screens at the same time, with monthly fees ranging from $6.99 to $11.99.
