Annual cost of airline delays in USA is $9 billion. Transportation Secretary Mary Peters says airline delays generate annual costs of $9 billion -- twice the entire budget for federal Airport Improvement Program grants. "We need fundamental change, not a system of extensions," Peters says. "We can and must offer new solutions and encourage more leadership to make air travel a reliable and pleasant experience again." Business travel may slow due to flight delays and rising cost. Although no hard data is available, it appears that business travel will be slowing over the next year. The main reasons corporate travel managers cite are the extensive flight delays this year and rising costs. Susan Gurley, executive director of the Association of Corporate Travel Executives, says businesspeople are considering more carefully whether they need to travel or can handle certain tasks by phone. Anvil Group

Anvil Group has recently revealed its new Travel Risk Intelligence System (TRIS) has resulted in more than 1,000 organisations subscribing to the service, a mere six months after its launch at the Business Travel Show. TRIS offers companies up-to-date information regarding incidents that may affect business travel, such as global events, weather reports and general travel advice. TRIS is updated and monitored 24 hours a day and provides travel managers with information on travel associated risks. Oct 2, 2007

British Airways, Calidris

Calidris announced that British Airways has gone live with its Business Change Management solution, enabling British Air to create an Order Data Store combining customer information "from across the complete booking-to-fulfillment lifecycle in a single unified data layer." Calidris said the first application attacked the problem of duplicate bookings. Oct 4, 2007

Galileo, VFM Interactive

Galileo and VFM Interactive, an online media management company, have joined forces to provide Galileo-connected agents with free, desktop access to photos, videos and virtual tours for thousands of hotels and resorts across the world. Oct 2, 2007


HRG today announced that it has launched an expense management tool that allows for automation of the expense process including pre-trip approvals, corporate card integration and receipt imaging, through expansion into the full HRG Expense Management tool. Oct 4, 2007

Japan Airlines, Expedia

Japan Airlines offers hotel reservations. Japan Airlines (JAL) customers visiting the carrier's website will be able to access an online hotel reservation service, through Expedia Japan. The Japanese language hotel booking site contains details of more than 34,000 hotels in 140 countries, while Expedia has its own travel specialists who visit the properties to ensure information is accurate. Visitors to the site can also take a 360 degree tour. From now until the end of December this year, JAL and Expedia Japan will run a promotional campaign so that everyone connecting to to make a hotel booking at, will earn 100 bonus miles from the JAL's frequent flyer programme, the JAL Mileage Bank. JAL already has tie-ups with four other online hotel booking websites that offer passengers a choice of 20,000 hotels outside Japan. Expedia Japan's addition takes that choice to 34,000. Oct 2, 2007
