Transbrasil, TAM hold talks on 'operational accord' on domestic flights.

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Brazilian carriers Transbrasil and TAM are apparently in negotiations about developing an operational accord for domestic flights, which could later lead to an equity swap.

A spokesperson for Transbrasil said that despite the attempts to develop further cooperation, the carriers did not have plans to merge.

Transbrasil is apparently keen to cooperate with another Brazilian carrier since it has suffered a ten-year run of economic losses and believes cooperation with one of its rivals will help it climb out of the red according to Reuters. There has been no comment from TAM.
