Training Agreement Is Signed.
Sohar, May 15 (ONA)--- The International Maritime College Oman
(IMCO) and Oman Shipping Company (OSC) signed a Letter of Intent whereby
OSC will sponsor up to 100 sea training positions a year for Deck
Officer and Marine Engineering students of IMCO. Typically, this will be
12 months for Deck Officer and 6 months for Marine Engineering Officers,
enabling students to receive a Certificate of Competence at Operational
Level, as part of the College's Diplomat Programme. Nicholas F.
Fisher, Chief Executive Officer of OSC outlined the Company's
intentions as part of its ongoing commitment to build on Oman's
Seafaring traditions and creating International job opportunities for
Omani citizens. To date, OSC has sponsored over 70 cadets since IMCO
launched in 2005. The International Maritime College Oman (IMCO) is an
institute of Higher Education jointly owned by the Government of the
Sultanate of Oman (70%) and the STC-Group of the Netherlands (30%),
established to provide internationally recognised training and education
in the maritime, logistics industries. Oman Shipping Company is a closed
joint stock company, incorporated in 2003 and owned by the Government of
the Sultanate of Oman through the Ministry of Finance (80%) and Oman Oil
Company (20%). Headquartered in Muscat, Oman, it was established to
transport the Sultanate's oil and gas products to world markets,
provide Omani shipping services to the country's trade partners in
other commodities, and to re-vitalize Oman's seafaring tradition.
