Trainee shows skills for region.

A BUILDING and roofing apprentice made the regional heat of an industry event.

Paul James, of Hodgson Sayers building and roofing specialists, represented the North East at the Construction Industry Training Build (CITB) Skills Build event in Leeds.

Paul, 21, of Consett in County Durham, said: "I am really enjoying working at Hodgson Sayers. I have been here for a year now, and was thrilled to have made the regional heats of the national event, which was held at Leeds College.

"It was a nerve-wracking day as I had to demonstrate my skills, by re-setting a plain tile into a bonnet hip and a valley, nine other competitors were taking part and we were judged on the spot!" Managing Director at Hodgson Sayers, John Sayers, said: "I am delighted at Paul's success.

"Apprentices such as Paul play a crucial role within our business and we work very closely with the CITB who help us to seek out high-calibre apprentices."
