Tragedy pilot a 'good stick'.

WASHINGTON: A Marine pilot whose jet severed an Italian ski lift cable, killing 20 people, was "a good stick" but made a bad choice to fly too low and too fast, a prosecutor said at his court-martial yesterday.

"He made a bad decision," said Lt Carol Joyce said in her opening statement at Capt Richard Ashby's court martial on 20 involuntary manslaughter charges.

He faces up to 200 years in prison if convicted.

Ashby (31) was flying the jet on February 3 1998, when its wing cut the cable supporting the Mount Cermis gondola.
