Tragedy of athlete hit by a truck; ACCIDENT.
Byline: STEPHEN MAGUIRETRAGIC athlete Shane Bonner's family are preparing to turn off his life-support machine, it emerged last night.
The champion runner was hit by a truck early yesterday morning.
It's believed he was trying to get a taxi home when the accident happened just after 4am in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
Shane's organs will be donated after the 20-yearold is allowed to pass away, his family revealed.
Shane, from Convoy, Co Donegal, was All-Ireland cross-country champion.
He was said to be "delighted" with the results from his Civil Engineering Exams from Letterkenny Institute of Technology that he got on Wednesday.
Family friend and Irish athletics manager Patsy McGonagle said: "Shane was one of the nicest young fellas. He was a fine athlete. My heart goes out to his family."
