Diversion on Sheikh Rashid Road in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open a temporary traffic diversion on Sheikh Rashid Road for traffic coming from Dubai heading towards Abu Dhabi.

The diversion, on Sunday, September 6, 2015, will extend about 1km between Al Garhoud Bridge and Wafi Interchange.

The number of lanes will be same to avoid any disruption on the flow of traffic.

The diversion is required to clear the way for carrying out the remaining construction work on the flyover at Sheikh Rashid Road, and completing roads and utility works to improve Wafi Interchange, which are scheduled for completion in the first quarter of next year.

Engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, said: "The engineering design of the temporary diversion conforms to the standards of permanent roads specifications in terms of engineering design, levelling, asphalt and sufficient lighting consistent with the designed speed of the road to ensure the safety of road users. The same number of lanes will be maintained in the diversion to avoid any negative impacts on the normal traffic intake."

She said the work on Wafi Interchange was progressing according to schedule, and called on road users to be attentive, observe directional signs and stick to the speed limits.
