Trade boost as Council of Saudi Chambers elects new team.

Summary: RIYADH: Abdullah Hamad Al-Ammar was elected chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC) at polls held recently in Riyadh, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) announced Monday.

Shoura Council member Osama Mohammed Al-Kurdi and Montaser Sadiq Yousuf Al-Mohammed were chosen as vice-chairmen of the CSC. The new board includes 21 businessmen, representing various economic sectors. Speaking to Arab News, ICC-Saudi Arabia executive director Mohammad Al-Ghazzawi, who conducted the elections, said board members selected the chairman and vice-chairmen in free and fair elections. In order to ensure the legitimacy and integrity of the procedures, the elections were held under the direct supervision of the council's legal department. He said the choice reflected the business sector's desire for strong leadership to represent them on their issues and concerns at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. It also showed their aspiration to achieve optimum benefit from the membership in the affairs of the international economic organization, the executive director said. Al-Ghazzawi pointed out that the elected key officials are professionals and businessmen known for their outstanding contribution to the economic development of the country. "The infusion of new blood to ICC-Saudi Arabia will trigger a strong start for its work and activities designed to serve the Saudi business sector," he stressed. The council's board, comprising the new office-bearers, will hold its maiden meeting on May 31. On their part, the newly elected chairman and vice-chairmen expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the board members for the confidence placed on them by choosing them for these positions. They pledged to do their utmost to promote the work of the council and to benefit from the membership of the International Chamber of Commerce in order to progress the economy in the Kingdom through the private sector. The new composition of the chamber's board of directors was selected to represent the industrial, financial, commercial, service and other sectors to ensure broader contribution and benefits in the activities of the council. ICC-Saudi Arabia was established in Riyadh in 1975. It is one of the first chambers in the region. It represents the interests of the Saudi private sector and the national economy in ICC-Paris and other international forums. It works under the umbrella of the Council of Saudi Chambers. The Paris-based ICC currently has 144 affiliates throughout the globe.
