Toyota ends production of Lexus LFA premium sports car.

NAGOYA, Dec. 17 Kyodo

Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday it has ended production of the Lexus LFA luxury sports car as planned after manufacturing a total of 500 units of the model in two years.

Toyota said it will make good use of the technological skills acquired through the manufacturing of the two-seater vehicle, such as those related to the production of carbon fiber reinforced plastic lightweight body parts, when making other Lexus brand models.

The LFA, manufactured at a pace of one unit per day at the Motomachi plant in the city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, boasts a maximum speed of 325 kilometers per hour and it can accelerate from zero to 100 kph in about three seconds.

Toyota manufactured about 200 units of the sports car, priced at 37.5 million yen, for the Japanese market. About 190 units were sold in North America and 40 units in Europe.
