Toyota beefs up its range.

Toyota's latest car is the Yaris supermini in 3- and 5-door forms which hits UK showrooms in April.

Designed in Europe and to be built eventually in the Japanese maker's new factory in Northern France from 2001, the Yaris has a hi-tech 1-litre 16-valve engine with variable 16 valve timing and a claimed ``penny pinching'' fuel economy.

Other model developments include a sporty G6R version of the Corolla, based on the successful rally car.

Celebrating the first anniversary of its Avensis, Toyota is also offering special editions based on the 'S' 1.6-litre saloon and 1.8-litre leftback models.

Called the SE, they come with air conditioning, alloy wheels, CD, and prices from Pounds 13,495.
